I used to absolutely love Boschendal Wine Estate over the past two years. Whenever we had guests visiting, the ritual was always the same: a wine tasting followed by the night market. It was a guaranteed highlight and felt like a must-do experience. Unfortunately, I feel Boschendal has made a misstep by moving the tasting venue to the Manor House. The art gallery was a wonderful space to wander through, and the werf had a warm, inviting atmosphere. The layout, with the shop positioned to the side, created a cohesive and memorable flow. That sense of discovery and ease has been lost, and the overall ambience feels less special. It also feels as though Boschendal is beginning to price itself out of the local South African market. The farm has lost some of its wonder. It used to be a place we proudly brought guests to, but recent changes have affected both the flow and the experience. The value for money, especially for first-time visitors, has become a talking point. During our last visit, the wines were served far too warm, and our server poured the same wine from different bottles. While it was late in the afternoon and very busy, these details do affect the experience. That said, the snack platter was lovely and generously portioned, easily enough for two to three people to nibble on. The tasting experiences themselves have slowly declined. Our most recent tasting, although an entry-level option, was disappointing. Boschendal’s wines are usually vibrant, with refreshing whites and full-bodied, spicy reds. This time, the wines felt flat, possibly too young or from bottles that had been open for too long. Overall, it feels as though the farm is trying too hard and, in the process, is missing the simple elements that once made a visit feel special. I hope the new restaurant proves to be worth what the farm has lost, and that Boschendal can rediscover the magic that made it such a favourite in the first place.

Dear Mister Goodwin Thank you, for taking the time to share such a detailed and considered review. We truly appreciate your loyalty over the past two years and the fact that Boschendal has been a place you proudly shared with visiting guests. We are sorry to hear that recent changes have left you feeling disappointed. Your reflections on the move of the tasting venue, the loss of flow and atmosphere, and the evolving sense of value are all important to us. While the Manor House was intended to offer a refined and flexible tasting environment, we recognise that it has changed the experience for returning guests who cherished the warmth and sense of discovery the werf and gallery once provided. Your comments regarding pricing, value for money, and consistency — particularly around wine temperature, bottle handling, and the character of the wines — are taken seriously. These details matter greatly in shaping the overall experience, especially during busy periods, and your feedback has been shared with both our wine and hospitality teams for review and corrective action. We are pleased to hear that you enjoyed the snack platter, and we thank you for highlighting this positive aspect alongside the concerns. Boschendal’s intention has never been to overcomplicate what should feel effortless and welcoming. We remain committed to refining our offering, reconnecting with the elements that made the farm special, and ensuring that both local and first-time visitors feel genuine value, care, and magic in their experience. Thank you again for your honesty and for holding us to a high standard. We truly hope to welcome you back in the future and restore the sense of enjoyment that made Boschendal a favourite for you. Kind regards The Boschendal Team
