A passionate restaurant on Cape Town’s Waterfront: Our Story

Marble was initially founded by Gary Kyriacou and David Higgs at the Keyes Art Mile in Rosebank, Johannesburg. Now, Marble Restaurant Cape Town brings the zeal for fire-driven cuisine and local flavours to the Mother City in the Waterfront.

Created to celebrate cooking with fire in all its glory and simplicity, Marble offers flame-inspired cuisine that champions South African culture and flavours. Boasting a grand wood-fired grill imported from Grill Works in Michigan at its heart, Marble is a celebration of the vibrant flavours, colours, and textures brought about with flame cooking.

The concept combines the open-fire trend, seen internationally, with a pinch of true South African flair. We have long been fascinated by what makes South African cuisine unique, and we believe it’s down to being meat and flame enthusiasts. It is the time-worn ritual of cooking on wood fires and gathering with friends, the shared experience in the preparation. And it is not just meat that we celebrate in this way, we boast an array of fresh ingredients all cooked on our perfectly prepared coals including fish, poultry, vegetables and breads.

Bad value for money. The food is ok but extremely overpiced for what you get. For example, out of the 4 oysters we got three were half frozen and one was a little bit frozen.... The service was very friendly but had no clue what they were doing. Again, for this price you expect staff that knows exactly what they do. For example, they tried to clear the plate while my plate was not empty and I was holding my spoon. They refilled my waterglass with still water while it was still quarter full of sparkling water. I was pressed not to look at the full wine list because they only had a couple of tablets to show the wines on. When the drinks were brought we had to pass it along the table. These are all not trainsmashes but if the cheapest main on your money is about 400 Rand you expect a lot more. I am guessing they have high turnover with staff and maybe refuse to pay a decent amount to get/retain decent staff. To end on a poisitive note, the location and ambience is great.

We had an amazing evening at Marble and the staff were all so helpful, especially Kelly on the front desk. We were late due to a flight delay caused by a fire at Cape Town airport but were made to feel very welcome and not rushed at all. The food was excellent and the ambience lively but not too loud in terms of the music. The views were lovely too. We would definitely return.
