A passionate restaurant on Cape Town’s Waterfront: Our Story

Marble was initially founded by Gary Kyriacou and David Higgs at the Keyes Art Mile in Rosebank, Johannesburg. Now, Marble Restaurant Cape Town brings the zeal for fire-driven cuisine and local flavours to the Mother City in the Waterfront.

Created to celebrate cooking with fire in all its glory and simplicity, Marble offers flame-inspired cuisine that champions South African culture and flavours. Boasting a grand wood-fired grill imported from Grill Works in Michigan at its heart, Marble is a celebration of the vibrant flavours, colours, and textures brought about with flame cooking.

The concept combines the open-fire trend, seen internationally, with a pinch of true South African flair. We have long been fascinated by what makes South African cuisine unique, and we believe it’s down to being meat and flame enthusiasts. It is the time-worn ritual of cooking on wood fires and gathering with friends, the shared experience in the preparation. And it is not just meat that we celebrate in this way, we boast an array of fresh ingredients all cooked on our perfectly prepared coals including fish, poultry, vegetables and breads.

My best meal yet at Marble. We shared the ceviche starter which was sublime and the game main was just perfectly cooked and what a great accompanying mango atchar with briyani rice and tasty and delicious carrot and raisin fondant. Paired beautifully with the 2019 Beaumont Hope Marguerite Chenin for the starter and the 2015 Raats Family Cabernet Franc for the mains and dessert to make it a dream meal to remember.

We thoroughly enjoyed our 7 colors Sunday lunch. Everything was super tasty and plentiful. Definitely didn't go home hungry. But two points to consider: 1) The table was asked if there were any food allergies, but based on how spicy some of the dishes were, I would suggest that tables are also informed of this as some people may not be able to tolerate the heat. 2) There must be a cheaper option for the water that is supplied. R100 for a bottle of still water is a bit excessive. Finally, the only downer of the day was that I had specifically indicated that we were celebrating my husband's birthday, which was acknowledged by Monique, and she said that it was noted on the reservation and that he would be presented with his dessert and a birthday message. As a hospitality provider it must always be remembered that it is the little things that also count.

'Had the Sunday "harvest table" lunch at Marble. Freshly baked ciabatta with dips to start, was an all-round favourite and the variety for Mains, was faultless: from the tender Washington brisket and roast chicken to the seven veggie dishes and a salad. The cheesecake to finish, was one of the best I ever had. Live background music by the wonderful Lize Mynhardt made for the perfect Sunday ambiance. Attention to detail in decor, tableware, sound distribution - and of course the views - make Marble one of the finest dining experiences in Cape Town.
