Sushi legend Hatsushiro Muraoka, fondly known as Papa San, joined forces with chef-partner Ben Bettendorf to open Obi on Long Street. We reported in May that the two saw Obi as an opportunity to showcase the clean flavours of Japanese cuisine, and this they do here with simplicity and skill.

    A Hidden Gem! The Best Japanese Food in Cape Town, by far! Best prawn tempura we've ever had anywhere! And the sushi rice, absolutely bursting with flavour. Friendly staff and authentic delicious food. All unassumingly headed up by the brilliant duo, Ben and Papa San. Highly recommended!

    We had a great meal because of the quality of food and the service. The Kaseki menu special is really good value for two people.

    Our waitress Taylor made our date night absolutely beautiful. Since she greeted us when we walked in , to helping us choose starters and mains. She regularly checked up on our throughout our stay. Thank you Taylor for your amazing service.

    Best sushi in town. An absolute treat. Papa San is an exceptional chef, and the quality is consistently outstanding. Thank you for keeping this superb special available. I also hope you keep the AA Badenhorst Secateurs Chenin Blanc on the wine list — it’s one of my favourites.
