Sushi legend Hatsushiro Muraoka, fondly known as Papa San, joined forces with chef-partner Ben Bettendorf to open Obi on Long Street. We reported in May that the two saw Obi as an opportunity to showcase the clean flavours of Japanese cuisine, and this they do here with simplicity and skill.

    Highly recommended. Excellent food, simple and tasty. Salmon tempura was phenomal.

    I've been a loyal customer of Obi long before it was known as Obi. First Minato's, then Takumi and in recent years Obi Restaurant. Still the best sushi in Cape Town, by far. Perhaps the best sashimi in South Africa, or even Africa. I always order the Original Tempura Roll (pure bliss) and the Sweet Kiss Roll. My friends last night ordered the Udon and Ramen and it was also fantastic. Always a treat, always special and the service is excellent. Long live Papa San, Ben and the staff!
