Sushi legend Hatsushiro Muraoka, fondly known as Papa San, joined forces with chef-partner Ben Bettendorf to open Obi on Long Street. We reported in May that the two saw Obi as an opportunity to showcase the clean flavours of Japanese cuisine, and this they do here with simplicity and skill.

    Papa San is a legend. The food is next level. We are accustomed to getting outstanding sushi and sashimi at Obi. last night the surprise was the panna cotta, with matcha tea ice cream. It was fragrant, delicious and not overly sweet - a perfect finale to an excellent and very quickly and nicely presented meal.

    it's always an absolute treat to eat at Obi Restaurant, the food is excellent, best sushi in town, the ambience is welcoming and warm, both owners are present and come and say hello, the staff is well trained. Always going back !! Thanks Papasan and Ben - you are really giving it all

    Obi Restaurant offers an escape from the mundane into the world of Japanese cuisine. From the moment we stepped in, we were greeted with a warm and inviting atmosphere that balances elegance with a touch of cultural aesthetics. It’s a place that feels both welcoming and refined, making it suitable for everything from a special dinner to a casual lunch. This visit was my daughters first sushi experience for lunch
