Ōku Asian Eatery is a Southeast Asian-inspired restaurant situated on Franschhoek’s main road.

The restaurant interior is inspired by the minimalistic design popular in the traditional Asian culture with delicate artwork and unique bonsai trees decorating the walls of the restaurant.

The team guided by Ryan Shell has created an ever-evolving menu that showcases traditional Asian-themed tones in a respectful manner whilst using high-quality local and seasonal produce. Our passionate front-of-house team is driven to deliver excellence in all aspects of service whilst displaying empathy for all of our guests by attending to their needs and desires.

Our wine list is focused on local wineries from in and around the valley as well as a selection of cocktails and sakes, including our own house brand beer-styled sakes.

The dining experience is completed with instrumental music that evokes a sense of calmness in our guests that enables them to unwind and relax.

    Beautifully presented and interesting food. The flavours were amazing! Great service. Only negative were the spot lights in the 2nd half of the restaurant were very bright (we were not the only diners to comment on this). Fabulous evening overall though!

    This is a wonderful example of high level gastronomy. Design, interior, very friendly and competent staff. Great wines, enough available by glass and outstanding food. Who wants a great Asian food experience, definitely will find it here.

    Our waiter Trainee Lisa (?) was just amazing. He was more then friendly, payed attention to everything we needed and it was fun talking to him. He made the difference to other restaurants. Great job!

    Not quite up to the standard of previous visits. A couple of dishes were not so good and service was slow. Hopefully they were just having a bad day

    Thank you for your enquiry. I’d like to share some feedback from our recent visit. It would be very helpful for guests to be informed in advance about the expected duration of the full dining experience—particularly how long the 11-course menu typically takes to complete, as well as the timeline for the 4-course option. This allows guests to plan their evening comfortably and avoid feeling uncertain about the pacing. Regarding the dishes, the lobster, lamb, and pot stickers were outstanding and truly showcased the quality of your kitchen. However, the crackers lacked flavour and didn’t seem to match the high standard set by the other courses. The ambience for the evening service could also be elevated to better align with a fine-dining experience. Given the length of time guests spend at the table between courses, small touches—such as white tablecloths and more attention to detail in the overall setting—would greatly enhance the atmosphere and complement the sophistication of the menu.

    Leider war kein Gang geschmacklich wirklich gut. Jeder Teller sah sehr schön aus aber hat leider nicht so gut geschmeckt wie er aussah. Große Enttäuschung, hatten mehr erwartet.

    Visited last year and food was a lot better. This year the food seemed like they were trying to be too posh instead of sticking to fundementals. We were extremely rushed for say the first five courses which was very overwhelming then there was a huge gap. I did not like this. After enjoying our visit so much last year we were very disappointed this time and would not return.
