Pear Tree Restaurant in Hermanus was established in 2015 and has become a firm favourite of visitors and locals alike. With a focus on fresh, modern dishes and a wide range of dishes on the menu including many seafood, vegetarian and vegan options, Pear Tree offers casual dining with food that surpasses expectations.

Located on the Village Square in the heart of Hermanus, you can enjoy the warm ambience of the restaurant’s interior, or enjoy the sea air and beautiful views over Walker Bay at our alfresco tables.

    On the positive side, the first purely Vegan dessert we had found in South Africa and tne seafood was excellent. The service was slow and toilets were offsite in local shopping centre. Staff could benefit from greater understanding of the differences between Vegan and vegetarian food and the vegan options would benefit from more protein. Good luck in improving and growing the business

That’s certainly not the standard we aim to deliver, and we are addressing this with the team to ensure better attentiveness and efficiency. Your comments regarding the understanding of vegan versus vegetarian requirements are especially appreciated. This is an important distinction, and we will be reinforcing training with our staff to ensure clearer knowledge and communication. We also value your suggestion about incorporating more protein into our vegan options — constructive input like this helps us refine and strengthen our offering. Regarding the restroom facilities, as we are situated within the centre, the bathrooms are managed by the shopping complex and are unfortunately outside of our direct control.     Unfortunately the service wasn’t very good which was disappointing as there were a lot of staff for not a lot of diners. It took 15 minutes to be asked for a drink/ receive a menu, and that was only after I asked someone walking by. It was a cold evening so almost all diners were inside. People were wearing coats and scarfs yet the door was wide open ( as almost no one outside why? The central window was wide open aswell. We had to ask for both to be shut, again why? On a positive note the food was excellent, superb flavours. An Asian twist to the dishes was a pleasant change to the normal menu. We particularly liked the chicken wings and chicken taco.

Waiting 15 minutes to be greeted and receive a menu , especially when the restaurant was not full — is not acceptable, and we completely understand how disappointing that must have felt. Your point is completely valid, and this should have been proactively managed by our team to ensure a warm and welcoming environment for our guests.     Very pleasant meal even though the storm had just started! Luckily we had pre booked and our table was inside. My chicken burger was very good and the malva pudding was fabulous!
