    We had a passable 3 course Restaurant Week dinner at the Piazza Hotel's restaurant. To start with we had to wait a fair while before someone attended to us upon arrival despite the restaurant not being busy. The table was not set properly with cutlery, so the waiter had to come and sort that out. The waiters were not well trained in that they kept leaning over diners to pass the plates instead of going around that diner and serving from the back. The one waiter just stood there waiting for us to ask which plates he had brought for serving, instead of asking us who had ordered which plate of food. However, the main waiter serving our table was friendly enough. The food was mediocre, nothing stood out. The starters was the best course and was a respectable size (the calamari dish was chewy, the prawns in the Caesar salad were not fully cooked) but the mains portions were a bit small (especially the beef fillet option). The desserts were fairly tasty except for the cheesecake option which was tasteless and very colourful. The toilets are in the hotel foyer outside the restaurant, they were clean. And the restaurant itself was generically decorated like most hotel restaurants and it did have nice high ceilings and felt airy. It was a mediocre meal and we were a bit disappointed.

    The place is beautiful but the food and service was disappointing

    1. The ambience was substandard and not conducive to a special celebration. 2. The table seating inside the restaurant was cramped, which made it difficult to enjoy a private conversation. 3. The layout of the restaurant allowed us to see and hear the hustle and bustle of the kitchen. We spent the evening looking at table settings and listening to the chef calling out food orders which detracted from the romantic atmosphere we were hoping for. It felt more like a busy fish market than a cozy and tranquil setting for a Valentine's dinner. 4. A further surprise was that we could not enjoy the complimentary bottle of Rose at the resturant, which was not mentioned in Dineplan.
