My first time at Hazendal Estate and obviously the Eatery. Service initially good but as time went on it got poorer. I don't hibknits entirely the waiters fault as it seemed as if she was the only one on the floor. I had to call her everything to get another glass of wine. And sometimes it required me to remind her as she was practically running from table to table. This I believe is management fault and not the waiter. We delayed ordering food as we soaked up the ambience. Eventually we ordered and the food took ages. I don't eat ham or pork products so the pizza menu which I favoured didn't provide me with many options. I tried ordering the Margherita pizza with some added mushrooms, but alas they ran out of mushrooms. I didn't want artichokes so I had one option left, the Quatro. 4 cheeses. The meal took ages to come. When questioned the water said they ran out of food or ingredients etc and the dough had just arrived and the food would be ready soon. The chicken burger looked and tasted great according to my friend. Chips were great too. My pizza didn't look hot. The pizza base wasn't as fluffy and nice as the other guests pizzas were, and the taste matched the look of the pizza. Wasn't very good at all. Should have chosen a burger- much less to go wrong there. So with lack of staff, lack of ingredients and lack of appeal.and taste of my pizza, not a good rating at all. After tipping the waiter we'll, she opened up a but and said they had to close early because if the lack of ingredients or had ru out of some stuff, maybe management didn't anticipate the turnout. Nevertheless she promised to look after me better next time. Will there be a next time, I must still decide. Although would imagine that this was a once off. I hope the Eatery proves me right - in that that was a once off bad experience.

Food was not good, chicken burgers were dry. Beef burgers dense and tasteless. Our waiter was not great, couldn’t remember who ordered what when he returned with a drink two minutes later snd that continued throughout the whole meal. Had to afl for the bill numerous times. It was a casual birthday celebration which was not enjoyable.

I found the setting cold and stark. There are beautiful gardens outside of the walls but you’re stuck inside the bare, small courtyard - seems like a waste. Our food was cold and the meat tough - very overpriced.

That was possibly the worst meal I have ever had in Cape Town. Beer and drinks were good but after waiting for an hour and 15 mins for our food, the pizza was a 1/10 and the burger a 3/10. The pizza was terrible. The staff were friendly and apologetic but would never go back there again or recommend it to anyone. We ate at the ‘kraal’ which was part of the ‘eatery’.

Lovely place, nice set up and kitchen, but unfortunately the service wasn’t up to scratch. Even though I went through a detailed booking process, there still seemed to be confusion around our booking. The restaurant wasn’t very clean and the staff seemed to be overwhelmed and the restaurant wasn’t even that full. Two of our orders arrived very late and we were compensated for one of them. All and all we were unfortunately disappointed with the experience.
