Guided by Provenance, Inspired by the Abundance of the Stellenbosch Valley

Inspired by the spirit of abundance, Plenitude is the culinary address at Majeka House Boutique Hotel, helmed by Stellenbosch resident chef Orlando Reid.

This relaxed yet refined neighbourhood restaurant brings together the best of both worlds: laid-back daytime dining that invites you to linger, and a thoughtfully curated evening experience showcasing seasonal plates with inspiration sourced from the hotel’s kitchen garden.

On arrival after a booking confirmation the waitress informed us they didn’t have a table. A large walk in party had used the tables up. We were asked to sit and wait for a table to become free, sit outside (which was too cold) or we could be accommodated in the bar. Knowing that a confirmed booking was due to arrive, they hadn’t even organised a table. This was unacceptable and very poor, we left very dissapointed with the experience, hungry & unable to find a suitable alternative due it being a Friday evening where everywhere was fully booked. Won’t return here anytime soon.

What a disappointment. One would expect that with this setup, the evening would have been wonderful — unfortunately, it was quite the opposite: • The MCC, Chardonnay, and red wine were all served far too warm. • We only received bread after nearly 30 minutes, just before the starter arrived. • The waiter was unable to pour a 0.7L bottle of MCC into six glasses, leaving the last guest with barely a sip. • The food arrived lukewarm, and the plates were not properly warmed. • The service was inconsistent — all servers repeatedly disappeared for long stretches, and no one offered additional water or even another (equally warm) bottle of wine. • No dessert was offered, and we waited 15 minutes for a simple espresso — and only after we managed to find a waiter to even place the order. • When the manager on duty (presumably) came to the table and asked whether everything was alright, she smiled and walked away when she was told “no”. To be clear: I do not blame the individual waiters. They genuinely tried. The real issue is a lack of training, leadership, and management oversight. The final surprise — and frankly the most disappointing — was when the waiter informed us that they do not receive the tips, as the restaurant keeps them. This is unacceptable and explains a lot about the low service level. It is an unfair and completely inappropriate practice. Overall, the experience fell far below expectations — definitely not to recommend.

All dishes clearly created with passion and attention to detail...all delicious. We had a selection of "tapas" and portion sizes very generous. Service was excellent and very welcoming. Thank you.

We visited Plenitude at Majeka House yesterday and can honestly say that Chef Callan and Chef Orlando have created a truly beautiful menu. There is something for everyone, whether you’re vegetarian, a fish lover, or enjoy meat; the selection feels thoughtful, balanced, and inclusive. We tried all of the snacks as well as several of the Light Bites, and every dish stood out for its freshness and quality of ingredients. We also had the Kalahari Beef Fillet and the Lionfish, both of which were of excellent quality and prepared with great care. The setting is stunning. We sat outside thanks to the good weather, but the interior of Majeka House feels elegant and luxurious without being overwhelming. Considering that Plenitude has only been open for around two weeks, it’s exciting to see such a strong start. Set in the beautiful surroundings of Majeka House in Stellenbosch, this is definitely a place to add to your to-do list. We’re very curious to see what’s still to come, this feels like just the beginning.
