Gourmet Guide™ Description

Stellenbosch’s Old Post Office building is where chef Jess van Dyk has found her home, drawing a loyal following of locals who adore her abundant style, along with discerning visitors. A gentle nod to the building’s heritage is reflected in small details, such as the leather envelope that opens to reveal a concise and enticing menu of small plates for lunch, with dinner being a more serious affair. The friendly waiting team will guide you to choose four to six plates per couple, or select one and let this gifted chef complete the quartet for you. There’s a carefully thought-out wine list showcasing the surrounds, and an option of corkage for one bottle only.

Jess’s talent lies in creating food that packs big flavours into diminutive dishes. Her pork lollipops exemplify this: crispy, sticky pork belly with a doenjang glaze and a charred spring onion dip. Asian undertones ensure an umami-rich experience like the miso yaki kingklip served with an Asian noodle salad, XO dressing, miso corn butter, and a peanut butter crisp, or the steamed prawn dumplings with a moreish Thai coconut curry, black cardamom, cashew furikake and curry leaf. Not only vegetarians love the Bombay butternut – roasted butternut with plum tomatoes, pumpkin seeds, chilli chutney, burrata, curry leaves, and sourdough.

Amazing food experience during our trip in south Afrika. One of the best restaurants with fine dining in a good and lazy atmosphere. Thank you so much!

Trying hard but if your customers have allergies taking things off (ie a sauce) and not replacing the isn't good enough at the level you're trying to be. Good flavours, service a little too slow which felt more to lack of staff than being relaxed.

What an amazing Michelin level dining experience. This is the sort of place where you want to order everything on the menu. Each dish was delicious with an attention to detail and wonderful mix of flavours. Highly recommended.

You love oysters? This is the place. You wanna enjou a michelin star restaurant without stars in Stellenbosch? You find it here. Well-selected wine list. A negative point: Unfortunately, the acoustics are too loud.

Ambitious but incongruous flavour combinations, modest servings, competent and attentive service, compact but impressive wine list, although lacking reasonably priced whites. Quite pricy at around R200 per small plate. Dining room opens directly onto noisy, busy traffic intersection.

So many good things and only one bad to say about this place. 1) aesthetically the food was very attractive2) most of the food was exceptional. Out of the 5 dishes only one was inedible. Oddly enough the server or even manager when I told them did not offer to recook or anything. 3) restaurant atmosphere is nice tables are space far enough apart that it’s not too crowded feeling and the interior is pleasant.
