We visited SINN on a night when it wasn't too busy, which lent itself to a positive experience. We were attended to quickly at the front desk and allowed to choose seating that we preferred in line with the area chosen in our Dineplan booking. After we were seated, service continued to be quick and friendly (and we were alerted upfront which menu items and beverages they did not have in stock). We were allowed some time in between courses, and each course was served at the perfect temperature. It was honestly a pleasant dining experience, and though the pricing is on the higher end, the food and service were well worth it

I’ve been thinking about this dish since we ate it yesterday, and unfortunately not for the right reasons. I ordered the lobster seafood hotpot, priced at around R900. After the meal, I went back to check the menu and noticed it specifically mentions poached lobster. There was, however, no lobster in the dish at all. At that price point, the presence of lobster would have been the one thing that justified the cost — without it, the dish felt extremely overpriced. The prawns were disappointing: the meat was stuck firmly in the shells, making them difficult and unpleasant to eat. The calamari and prawns overall were very average, while the mussels were fine but unremarkable. The sauce was also underwhelming — essentially comparable to a standard Ocean Basket–style lemon butter, which is not what one expects from a premium seafood hotpot at this level. What added to the confusion was that the waiter confidently told us there would be risotto at the base of the dish, despite this not being mentioned on the menu at all. There was no risotto, which left me wondering why this was stated so definitively. The accompaniments didn’t help. Only one piece of bread was served, which felt completely disproportionate to the amount of sauce. The roast potatoes were soft and tired — more like buffet potatoes that have been standing for too long. I had imagined buttery, crispy roasted potatoes, but they fell flat. On the service side, the waitstaff themselves were excellent — attentive and polite throughout. However, there was an uncomfortable moment where the manager spoke very loudly to staff right next to our table, instructing them on cleaning (including specific instructions like using vinegar and bicarbonate to remove a spot). This felt inappropriate and disrespectful to paying patrons, even if we were “only” a table of one adult and three children. The bread that was served was genuinely lovely. Very unlikely to return.

Extremely poor experience. Dr. P. Pillay has landed herself in Milpark after good poisoning from the oysters she ate. She was fetched by ambulance a hour after we left the restaurant.
