There was an interesting incident I witnessed wherein one family was denied access because they had a kid with them and minutes later one big family comes with more than one child and they were allowed to dine and some of the kids were more or less the same age as the one for the other family.

Skyfall Restaurant & Wine Cellar responded on Tue 06 Jan 26:
Thank you for sharing this feedback, Phindile. I’m very sorry that you witnessed inconsistency in how our team handled the situation regarding children in the restaurant. That should never happen. If we have a policy or guideline in place, it must be applied evenly and respectfully to every guest — without exception. I’ve already addressed this with the management and service teams to ensure clarity and consistency going forward. Our aim is always to be welcoming, fair, and transparent so that no guest is left feeling uncertain or unfairly treated. If you’re willing, I would truly appreciate the opportunity to speak with you directly so I can better understand what happened on the day. You’re welcome to contact me at the hotel any time. The reason value and food goes so low is as such: I wanted to enjoy SkyFall more than I did. The mains were genuinely superb, but the overall experience was let down by presentation, accuracy of description, and value for money. The starters, in particular, did not match what was described. For R195 starter arrived as crumbed prawns with sweet chilli sauce and a garnish described as a “micro salad”. A micro salad is typically a small, thoughtfully composed mix of microgreens, baby leaves and delicate elements, not a single herb placed on the plate. Calling one herb a salad is misleading. When a dish description and what arrives on the plate do not correlate, it breaks trust quickly, especially at this price point. While I can’t fault the mains for flavour, the gap between description, presentation, and value was so far off that it becomes embarrassing to recommend without caveats. For context, I’ve had the honour of critiquing food at Le Petit Colombe, 12 Apostles, Mosaic, Protégé and Fermier. I know what good looks like, and I also know what guests should expect when paying premium prices. There is serious potential here, but the menu descriptions need to reflect reality, plating needs more care, and the value proposition needs to be reconsidered.

Skyfall Restaurant & Wine Cellar responded on Mon 05 Jan 26:
Thank you very much for sharing such a considered and detailed review, Marcio. I truly appreciate the time and thought you put into articulating your experience. Your feedback is not only fair, but also very valuable — particularly given your background in dining at and critiquing some of South Africa’s finest establishments. I’m pleased to hear that you enjoyed the flavour and execution of the mains. However, it is clear that we fell short in several key areas: accuracy of menu descriptions, presentation standards, and the perceived value of the offering. You are absolutely right — when the description of a dish does not align with what is presented, it breaks trust and undermines the overall dining experience, especially at a premium price point. Your comment about the “micro salad” is noted, and I fully agree that wording must reflect reality — not aspiration. Language, plating detail, and value all need to work in harmony. Where they don’t, the guest experience suffers, and for that I apologise. I will be reviewing your feedback directly with our Executive Chef and culinary leadership team. This will include: • tightening the accuracy of menu descriptions • reassessing value alignment across courses • reinforcing plating attention-to-detail • benchmarking standards against premium dining expectations Your perspective confirms that the potential is there — and it is now our responsibility to close the gap between intention and execution. Thank you again for your honesty and professionalism. I sincerely hope we may welcome you back in future so you can experience the improvements your feedback will help shape. Warm regards, Ludwig Williams Food & Beverage Operations Manager Brahman Hills Hotel & Spa
