The Fat Fish – George

An oasis of calm in the heart of the George city centre, The Fat Fish, offers the exact same delightfully original menu as its sister restaurant in Plettenberg Bay. Enjoy the finest, sustainably caught, seafood, the freshest sushi as well as a wide range of other innovative dishes in a gem of a location.
The lush, beautifully landscaped garden complete with water features, outdoor BBQ and children’s play area, offers true respite on a hot Garden Route summers day. While the stylish, contemporary interior features a series of more intimate dining spaces on varying levels, with no less than three fireplaces, to cosy up to in the colder wet winter months. In addition, The Fontus, Special Events Room, is available for private celebrations and often plays host to carefully curated food and wine pairings.

The menu is predominantly seafood-based and perfectly complemented by an award-winning wine list, classic cocktails and extensive craft gin selection. Be sure to look out for their regular “From the Fire” al fresco feasts and Paella Specials out in the garden when the weather allows.

Having worked internationally for a number of years, chef patron Christo Nortier has returned home. As passionate as he is experienced, Christo is determined to offer Garden Route diners a true culinary experience and an opportunity to venture away from the conventional in beautiful surrounds.

    I tried the Asian Calamari Tom Sum Salad and it was absolutely divine, one of the nicest meals I’ve ever eaten 😋. I didn’t know what to expect but loads of calamari piled over a mound of salad containing tomatoes cucumber and (limp) lettuce (which just worked brilliantly to absorb the flavour of the delicious dressing) with oriental flavours of fish sauce etc and also covered in crushed peanuts - it was absolutely fantastic, sitting in the sun outside with a bottle of crisp iced Pinot Grigot!! My husband had the fish and chips which he also loved.

    Thank you for a good experience. We had a variety of food. From tappas to Tuna, Kingklip, sole and a delicious Greek salad. My guests enjoyed the cocktails and had a fabulous meal.
