    The tapas dinner at Foodbarn is always such an enjoyable experience. The food is superb, service is great and ambience very relaxed and comfortable. My favourites are the chicken livers, the giant mushroom and the steak tartare. My wife absolutely loved the calamari, and my daughter's top pick was the Arancini balls. The prices are quite high, but given the excellence of the food, they are justified. However, it's such a pity that wine is so expensive. R270 per bottle was the cheapest we could find. Unlike the food, it is not a creation of the brilliant chef at Foodbarn, so one has to question why the need for such a substantial markup. Had it been more like R160-R180 we would have splashed out on two bottles. That gripe aside, we had a great experience and will definitely be back when we can afford to treat ourselves again!

    The service at Foodbarn is exceptionally good. We were a table of 4 for dinner. Favourite tapas choices were Haloumi, Fried calamari, mushroom ravioli, butternut, and for desserts the rhubarb crème brûlée. Disappointing was the prawn taco (dry & tasteless). From a gluten-free perspective, I would have loved the avo&prawn “cocktail”, but unfortunately there was no gluten-free soy sauce/tamari, and with seemingly more Asian dishes on the menu, my choices felt limited. The day before, I was treated to breakfast at the Foodbarn, and that was delicious - poached eggs, spinach, mushrooms, rosti and hot chips (iso toast).
