Wilderkrans failed to tell us that the main kitchen had burnt down and they were serving a very limited menu ( 3 starters 3 mains 3 desserts ) -. Kids menu - penne pasta with pesto ( for kids ??) @ R 150 each - they could not eat it anyway - Total bill R 2200 4 adults 2 kids🥶- not for the South African rand - this venue Very disappointing snd management did not even attempt to apologise or ask how the meal was - Let’s see if management has the decency to contact me

The Restaurant @ Wildekrans Wine Estate responded on Mon 19 May 25:
Good Afternoon, Jonathan, Thank you for your review, we are sorry to hear you did not enjoy your time with us. We are surprised as I, the Chef, did come and speak with you - and you all thanked me and said you enjoyed it? Yes, we have set up a pop restaurant and kitchen as we are currently busy with refurbishing the kitchen after a small kitchen fire. We unfortunately did not allow you to sit in the venue / restaurant with your 2 large Golden Retrievers as dogs are not allowed in this space where we serve food, so unfortunately you did have to sit on the lawns. I will contact you when we are open to discuss your concerns further Regards Gordon

My comments were about the fact that you did not disclose that you were running a “pop up “ and not the advertised menu - when 2 plates return to the kitchen uneaten ( kids pasta ) then normally someone enquires if there was something wrong - the nsnager did not reappear - and yes the chef asked if we enjoyed it on the way to the car park - too late to complain - I’ve no idea what the figs have to do with our meal - we and they were happy on the lawn ?0

Sunday was a fantastic special day. The four of us had a very tasteful lunch and also our grandson enjoyed his small special meal. It was the best Sunday ever. For us Wilderkrans deserves the first South-African michelinstar. The new venue (after the fire) has the most beautiful view. If you are looking for something different, come to Botrivier!
