Yama Sushi Eatery is Franschhoek’s premier sushi restaurant situated on the main road of Franschhoek.

The restaurant takes on a light, minimalistic approach that offers spacious seating both inside and outside in the courtyard. Our courtyard is fitted with a beautiful roof which has some heaters to make it warm.


The team, guided by Ryan Shell, aims to create a calm space where locals can fully relax and enjoy themselves with anything from a quick lunch to a full dinner spread. The eatery offers a high-quality sushi menu accompanied by an Asian-themed à la carte menu using fresh seasonal ingredients. Guests are sure to feel at ease as they are gracefully guided and taken care of by our passionate team throughout their visit.

Our wine list is focused on local wineries from in and around the valley as well as a selection of cocktails and sakes, including our own house brand beer-styled sakes.

The dining experience is completed with instrumental music that evokes a sense of calmness in our guests that enables them to unwind and relax.

    We loved everything about our dining experience at Yama, from the moment we stepped inside the door. The beautiful pared down decor, elegant and refined. The hospitality was exemplary, from the suited Maitre D through to all the wait staff. All were extremely attentive, knowledgable and friendly The in-house staff training shone through, particularly around food allergies. Our meal was beautifully presented and delicious. I would highly recommend Yama and will definitely return. Our grateful thanks.

    Wine and food over priced! Food too heavily spiced even the kids meals! Very disappointing!

    We had a lovely experience at Yama. Melvin was our superb server. The food was top-notch. Softest bao bun. We ordered quite a few starters, mains and desserts. Everything was amazing. We will definitely be back.

    Our table enjoyed a variety of dishes. Pork belly starter, mushroom/prawn/pork dumplings, brisket with broccoli, various ramen, pork poke bowl....everything was DELICIOUS AND BRILLAINT.

    They forgot to deduct my 400R deposit from the bill claiming the system malfunctioned. I luckily remembered it. Not a good impression.
