Gourmet Guide™ Description

Stellenbosch’s Old Post Office building is where chef Jess van Dyk has found her home, drawing a loyal following of locals who adore her abundant style, along with discerning visitors. A gentle nod to the building’s heritage is reflected in small details, such as the leather envelope that opens to reveal a concise and enticing menu of small plates for lunch, with dinner being a more serious affair. The friendly waiting team will guide you to choose four to six plates per couple, or select one and let this gifted chef complete the quartet for you. There’s a carefully thought-out wine list showcasing the surrounds, and an option of corkage for one bottle only.

Jess’s talent lies in creating food that packs big flavours into diminutive dishes. Her pork lollipops exemplify this: crispy, sticky pork belly with a doenjang glaze and a charred spring onion dip. Asian undertones ensure an umami-rich experience like the miso yaki kingklip served with an Asian noodle salad, XO dressing, miso corn butter, and a peanut butter crisp, or the steamed prawn dumplings with a moreish Thai coconut curry, black cardamom, cashew furikake and curry leaf. Not only vegetarians love the Bombay butternut – roasted butternut with plum tomatoes, pumpkin seeds, chilli chutney, burrata, curry leaves, and sourdough.

Superb combination of setting and thoughtfully constructed, extremely tasty platters. Loved the eclectic and limited wine list. A definite hit in all respects

The hype might have been a bit much or perhaps its just our bland tastebuds that need a tweak. We did not love the dumplings - too much ginger. The chocolate dessert was more a sesame ensemble than chocolate. The strawberry option was however fabulous as well as the Kingklip main. Not sure the meal was worth 1500 pp ...

The food and ambiance was good. HOWEVER, they did not credit my prepayment for the the one guest that showed. So I lost 500R just for making a reservation. That is PATHETIC.

It was our first visit at Post & Pepper, introduced by Uva Mira's Wine paring invitation, one of my favourite wine farms. I have been fortunate to have eaten at a number of fantastic establishments, including Jordan's (in their heyday), Aubergine, Tintswalo, Test Kitchen, Waterkloof, etc. I have just found my new favorite, The Post & Pepper in Stellenbosch. Its fine dining without pretension but not in anyway lacking in finesse, taste presentation and artistry. So many restaurants sacrifice one for the other. Each of the 5 courses was a perfect portion size. Not too small, but neither too big to feel uncomfortable at the end of the night. The taste? Hands down, the best meal I have ever had. It remained elegantly sophisticated, but I could have had just one large bowel of any of the dishes, they were all that good. I cant wait to go back!
