Gourmet Guide Description

On the first floor of the silo building in Woodstock’s trendy Old Biscuit Mill, there’s an intimate and sophisticated dining salon adorned with white tablecloths that warm the sexy room. Legendary Luke Dale Roberts and his dedicated, talented head chef Carla Schulze have elevated the offering since opening in April 2023. The Journey menu, a multi-course, inventive epicurean experience of 11 courses, awaits the discerning diner. Add the pioneer or iconic wine pairings courtesy of sommelier Tadiswa Chikwanha, and you’ll have the perfect evening.

Tracing Luke’s impressive global career trajectory from his British roots, the menu transverses Asia to Europe, Latin America to South Africa, his home for nearly 20 years. In Mexico, you might devour the chipotle tuna Caesar paired with a cocktail that marries tequila and jalapeños
perfectly with a kick. A British cheese and pickle sandwich could be followed by a sojourn in France for duck Suzette. The seven-day-aged duck with a citrus emulsion and duck stew is served tableside with a touch more fun than fuss. The Korean beef fillet boasts a heady
flavour combination of mirin tea, ssamjang, kimchi, and ponzu – all vying equally for attention. Return to France for a dessert that pays true tribute, perhaps a madeleine.

Carla is excited about the new additions to the menu that celebrate South African ingredients. Here, tradition is turned on its head. Classics are reinvented and elevated with fun and finesse, à la LDR, a fitting tribute to how the land of opportunity has embraced this talented chef, and how he, in turn, has embraced all that it offers.

    One of the dinner best evenings in Cape town. Everything was amazing. The food representation from the different countries in the world was so tasteful and well presented paired with high quality wines. Thank you!

    It was an incredible lunch! The food was outstanding, offering a rich journey through different flavors and styles from around the world. Truly well done. Even though the service had a few flaws, our server, Thulani, did an exceptional job — interacting respectfully yet warmly with everyone at the table. He showed a deep knowledge of the wines and consistently went out of his way to accommodate our needs. It just proves again how much of a difference good service makes. Overall, the experience felt much closer to three Eat Out stars than two, and you truly get excellent value for your money.

    Fantastic in every area! Food was top notch, every course done perfectly. The iconic wine pairing was exquisite and introduced us to new favorites. Highly recommend!

    Sadley not the experience I was looking for. Artistically presented, serv in ce superb. The wine pairing was way too expensive and not enjoyed. Attention to other details like clean toilets with locking doors , was needed. The small envelopes with the menus and description was a nice touch. Would I recommend it to friends???? Unfortunately not.
