Set in the beautiful landscape of the Cape Winelands, just outside Stellenbosch, VUUR
is all about fire, flavour and the primal connection between food and flame.

Under the direction of chef-owner Shaun Scrooby, VUUR redefines cooking over an
open fire by utilising the raw intensity of fire as both an ingredient and a technique.

At VUUR, fire is more than just a cooking method – it is a philosophy. Every dish is
carefully crafted with open flames, embers and smoke, enhancing the natural flavours of the finest ingredients sourced from local farmers, butchers and foragers.

The restaurant embodies a deep respect for nature, sustainability and the purity of elemental cooking.

Whether choosing VUUR Private Dining, sharing the experience with
other guests at the VUUR Goose Island Social Table, or viewing the chefs conjuring up their magic by sitting at the Chef’s Counter on Goose Island, you will be exposed to a magical theatre of cooking on open flames and bedazzled by the flavours extracted from the different types of wood used.

    ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A truly unforgettable experience at Vuur! From the moment we arrived, it was clear that Vuur is something truly special. The concept of a single shared table with other guests created a warm, intimate, and almost magical atmosphere — like being part of a private dinner party with strangers who quickly feel like friends. Chef Jean is nothing short of extraordinary. Every dish was a masterpiece — creative, perfectly balanced, and presented with such care and passion. You can taste the love in every bite, and Jean’s presence throughout the evening made the experience feel deeply personal. This isn’t just a meal — it’s an immersive culinary journey. If you’re looking for something out of the ordinary, something that stays with you long after the last course, Vuur is a must. Leroy made als a difference with his wine pairing.     Subject: Disappointing Dining Experience at VUUR Dear Manager’s/staff of VUUR, I am writing to express my profound disappointment with our recent dining experience at VUUR, where my party and I paid nearly R5000 for a seven-course fine dining meal that fell far short of expectations. While the ambiance of your restaurant was beautiful and the initial bread course was exceptional, the overall quality of the food and service did not align with the fine dining experience advertised. Below are the specific issues we encountered: 1. Substandard Main Courses: The lamb course, advertised as a substantial piece of lamb with rosemary, was instead small, underwhelming “wolf cuts” served with a sauce that tasted like leftover wine. Similarly, the steak course consisted of mere slivers rather than a proper portion, which was particularly disappointing for a fine dining establishment. 2. Cold Food and Plates: Several courses, including the fish course and the consommé on the plate was cold, we were served cold sorbet on cold plates on a cold day …This was especially noticeable on a rainy evening when warmer dishes, such as a roasted parsnip soup or fire-grilled vegetables, would have been more appropriate and appreciated. For a palet cleanser. 3. Lackluster Service and Presentation: The servers did not meet the standard expected for a fine dining experience. The cold plates and inconsistent food temperatures further detracted from the meal, making the experience feel rushed and unrefined. 4. Mismatch with Advertised Experience: VUUR’s vibrant marketing led us to anticipate a memorable, high-quality culinary journey. Unfortunately, the food quality and execution did not reflect the premium price or the restaurant’s fine dining reputation. This experience was particularly disheartening given the significant cost and the special occasion we were celebrating

    The vibe was good. For meat there is a balance between tough/tender and taste. My wife and I found the tough to be too much.

    This restaurant is so special in so many ways. The fact that it caters for private groups is amazing. The food was delicious and stylish and wine pairing top notch. Service was outstanding and personal.
