Set in the beautiful landscape of the Cape Winelands, just outside Stellenbosch, VUUR
is all about fire, flavour and the primal connection between food and flame.

Under the direction of chef-owner Shaun Scrooby, VUUR redefines cooking over an
open fire by utilising the raw intensity of fire as both an ingredient and a technique.

At VUUR, fire is more than just a cooking method – it is a philosophy. Every dish is
carefully crafted with open flames, embers and smoke, enhancing the natural flavours of the finest ingredients sourced from local farmers, butchers and foragers.

The restaurant embodies a deep respect for nature, sustainability and the purity of elemental cooking.

Whether choosing VUUR Private Dining, sharing the experience with
other guests at the VUUR Goose Island Social Table, or viewing the chefs conjuring up their magic by sitting at the Chef’s Counter on Goose Island, you will be exposed to a magical theatre of cooking on open flames and bedazzled by the flavours extracted from the different types of wood used.

    Our third visit and it’s just as phenomenal as the first. Everything was perfect: from the butter and tartare to the fish and the wood-fired steak! We also love the communal, casual vibe paired with world class food and service.. it honestly feels like hanging out with friends. The wine pairing deserves a special mention- absolutely on par with the food. Can’t wait to go back!

    What an amazing experience! We sat at the Chefs counter and got to watch the well oiled machine operating. The food was outstanding but Vuur was so much more than just the food. We started at 1pm and left after 5pm. The long slow afternoon included drinking a seemingly unlimited supply of delicious Remhoogte wines, chatting to the friendly servers and chefs and taking breaks between courses on the beautiful deck overlooking the dam. By the time we finished, all the guests seemed to have become the best of friends. We left with full stomachs but very full hearts, proud of our South African heritage and this unique restaurant that is displaying the best of who we are to the world! Scott W

    Amazing restaurant from the start to the end, the setting, presentation, a taste sensation, staff very knowledgeable, and accommodating especially for a person with allergies in our group.
