Cape Town and surrounds
Arum
(Boschendal Estate, Franschhoek)
There’s an exciting new opening at Boschendal! Arum, the latest restaurant from acclaimed Chef Peter Tempelhoff and the award-winning FYN Group, now occupies the former Die Werf space on the idyllic Winelands property. Set inside the estate’s original 1812 cellar, Arum brings a bold farm-to-fire dining experience to Franschhoek, celebrating Boschendal’s agricultural heritage with local, seasonal ingredients and a strong sense of terroir. For Chef Peter, Arum represents the coming together of place, produce, and philosophy. “Boschendal brought all of those elements together,” he says, “as a heritage wine estate and agricultural haven, it was an opportunity I couldn’t pass up – a chance to create something that reflects Boschendal’s deep connection to the land.” Open Wednesday to Sunday for lunch and dinner.
Just superb! Delicious food, excellent service, beautiful setting. Already up there with the best in Cape Town and the Winelands.
East City Grill and Yakiniku
(District Six, Cape Town)
This new spot brings two distinct dining experiences together under one roof, united by Chef Jaycee Ferreira’s passion for South African flavours and Asian traditions. Set inside the landmark hemp building at No. 84 Harrington Street, this is a fresh addition to the neighbourhood with a concept that feels both grounded and new and exciting. East City Grill focuses on flame-led cooking, with local wagyu and proudly South African ingredients at the heart of the menu. Next door, Yakiniku offers an intimate Japanese-style table grill inspired by Tokyo’s smoky yakiniku bars, where guests cook and share dishes right at the table. It’s a warm, social way to dine and should be right at the top of your list. Both are open Tuesday to Saturday for dinner.
Fantastic dining experience and so much fun! Cooking your own Wagyu in a beautifully decorated restaurant is highly recommended!
Marras Wines
(Voortrekker Road, Riebeeck West)
Marras is the kind of Winelands stop that feels like a rare find – unpretentious, charming, and now bookable on the Dineplan app. It’s an easy choice for a laid-back afternoon in the Swartland, whether you’re after snacky, globe-inspired small plates, simple wood-fired pizzas, juicy stacked burgers or just a long lunch or dinner with live music drifting through the space. The menu reflects winemaker Martin “Marras” Lamprecht’s love of big flavours and shared tables: relaxed South African favourites anchored in heritage, with worldly touches picked up on his travels. Pair it all with award-winning Swartland wines and you’ve got a spot built for slow hours and good company. Open Wednesday to Sunday for long lunches and cosy dinners.
Marras is een van die lekkerste plekke in die Swartland!
Johannesburg
Inverroche House Of Amber
(Rosebank, Johannesburg)
Tucked in the heart of Oxford Parks, Inverroche House Of Amber is a brand-new glass house gin bar that’s already turning heads. Having opened in early November, it’s the kind of place you go for the gin but stay for the food. Inside, smooth Inverroche gins meet live music, fashion, and immersive performances that feel bold, conscious, and effortlessly refined – like the brand itself. Expect bespoke cocktails, rare spirits you won’t find anywhere else, exclusive merch, and intimate masterclasses and tastings to explore the full gin range. South Africa’s top musicians make regular appearances, bringing a real energy to the space. It’s a spot that thrives on creativity, craftsmanship, and a love for doing things a little differently. Check their Instagram each week for the latest performances, special guests, and upcoming events.
Best gin cocktails I’ve had on this planet, service was great and our waiter Sasha had amazing energy. Will definitely be back for another House of Amber experience:)
MIRA Sandton
(Sandton, Johannesburg)
Having just opened in the Sandton Sun Hotel, MIRA is one spot you need to book ASAP. The space is intimate, beautifully appointed – every detail of the fit-out whispers elegance. The service is warm, welcoming, and attentive, making it the kind of place you want to linger. The menu is a celebration of Portugal and Mozambique, bold and spicy yet refined. Think flame-grilled chorizo, crispy fried seafood, fresh oysters (the oyster flights are definitely worth exploring), whole grilled line fish, generous seafood platters, beef espetada, trinchado, and even a signature sushi selection. Plates are perfect for sharing, encouraging conversation and a slow, indulgent meal. Sip inventive cocktails, savour a glass from the extensive wine list, or explore fine premium spirits as you let the night unfold. Open daily from lunch till late.
Mira Restaurant in Sandton is a gem. From the moment you arrive you’re welcomed with warm, professional service. The atmosphere is classy but relaxed perfect for a date night, business meet-up or just a night out with friends. I highly recommend it if you’re looking for quality food and a great vibe in Sandton.
