Chefs Warehouse & Canteen introduces BYO Saturday lunches

by | 8 April 2026

Hot Off The Press

Chefs Warehouse & Canteen on Bree Street is launching a new weekly BYO (bring your own) Saturday lunch, starting on 11 April 2026. This new addition brings back the restaurant’s original focus on shared meals and communal dining. And, what’s more, there’s no corkage fee – a rare move that warmly welcomes the local wine community.

Inspired by the BYO culture in Australia – where founder Liam Tomlin spent much of his career – the Saturday lunch invites guests to bring bottles from their own collections to the table. By waiving corkage, Chefs Warehouse & Canteen makes this style of dining more accessible, putting the focus on good food, great wine, and the simple pleasure of sharing a meal.

Chefs Warehouse has always been about sharing, and we’d love to see what locals are drinking and hear some of their great stories around those wines. – Chef Liam Tomlin

With no corkage to consider, guests can bring a selection of wines to enjoy across multiple courses, turning the pairing into a more relaxed and personal part of the experience.

These Saturday lunches also nod to the early days of the Chefs’ Warehouse, when the “Tapas for Two” menu changed daily based on seasonal ingredients. Instead of a fixed menu, guests can expect a rotating mix of themes – from dishes built around a single seasonal ingredient to collaborations with guest chefs and local producers.

This adds to the vibe of the easy Saturday social lunches we want to create for our community of diners. – Chef David Schneider

Menus will be shared weekly on their social media, and priced at R800 per person. Guests are welcome to bring as many bottles as they like, but for those who’d rather not, the bar and cellar will remain open as usual.

Alongside the launch of the BYO Saturday lunches, Chefs Warehouse & Canteen has introduced new winter hours. While weekday lunches will pause, the restaurant will continue to serve dinner from Monday to Saturday.

Please note: The no-corkage BYO policy applies strictly to Saturday lunches at Chefs Warehouse & Canteen.
